Irving, interesting and articulate piece.

I would be interested in your thoughts on the fact that the updated business roundtable release on the Purpose of a Corporation never mentions "employment security" as one of their considerations.

They wrote the following: "Investing in our employees. This starts with compensating them fairly and providing important benefits. It also includes supporting them through training and education that help develop new skills for a rapidly changing world. We foster diversity and inclusion, dignity and respect."

Actually, from my time at IBM (and you please tell me if you saw it differently from your service there) that investing in employees starts with "employment security for those who perform."

Straying from this philosophy, I believe, has led to IBM's two-decade long drop in both sales and profit productivity (before COVID), and evidently they -- with recent E.U. and Israel workforce rebalancing actions -- are not getting off that path.

Whether a person works remote or in the office, when they fear for their jobs from layoffs, seems inconsequential, doesn't it?

To me the discussions above pale in comparison to having an open discussion on what the real problems are with too many organizations -- poor human relations practices
