Irving, this is great insight. My son had the opportunity to have a job in a machine shop in high school. By the time he finished his EECS degree, he had already had practical work experience, and had the experience in hiring and firing. By the time he had his first post-degree engineering job, he had more management experience than many of the managers. Not bad for a young engineer. I'm convinced that the practical challenges he faced were great preparation for the larger engineering challenges he's taking on in his professional career.
